Australasia's Highest Mountain

 

On leaving Queenstown you travel north through the historic gold mining region of the rugged Kawarau River Gorge and past Cromwell, famed for its fruit growing. You skirt the shores of Lake Dunstan, you cross over the Lindis Pass to Omarama where you can get morning tea at your own expense. Continue through the rugged high country landscape of the Mackenzie Basin where you travel along the shores of Lake Pukaki, as you look straight ahead at Aoraki/Mount Cook. You will arrive at Mount Cook Village which is just 750m above sea level with Aoraki/Mount Cook at 3,724m as the villages backdrop.Enjoy the views form the iconic Hermitage Hotel, as you eat a delicious buffet lunch (own expense $35) or explore the village and its scenic surrounds. After lunch and the scenery of Aoraki/Mount Cook we will board the coach, as we make our way back to Queenstown.
